Homework Policy

Homework Policy

Homework is recommended because assessments are carried out periodically and homework helps the teacher to understand the areas where the student(s) need further help before delivering a new lesson.

Also keeping in mind that students are learning online, their day/time should be organized to meet additional time to review, prepare and submit homework on a regular basis.

We believe it should be reasonable in length and expectations so students have time for after school activities and to pursue other interests. Where possible, assignments will be given before the weekend, which should help students to manage their time and develop good study habits as well as allow them to pursue activities outside of the virtual classroom.

Procedure

  • Homework includes reading for at least 20 minutes each day (see table below). Reading is one of the best ways for students to improve their overall ability to improve language and learn, understand and grasp situations better; therefore, students should be encouraged to read aloud every night in English (and Arabic if able). This includes reading books together with your child.
  • Homework would primarily include practice or review of material already studied in class and involve applying concepts learned in daily life. (Completing 2 or 3 worksheets is enough to know if the student understands the concept on their own). Grade One and above students should also show their workings as to how they arrived at the answer. Homework should always be the idea and work of the student. It is important that students put in their best effort in homework. Assignments or projects should be completed neatly and submitted on time.
  • Parents should write to support@targheeb.com if there are issues resulting in homework not being completed. Students who have given their best effort but are unable to solve the problems can highlight the question(s) or comment online the homework page on submission and seek help from the teacher in the next lesson.

Furthermore, homework is included as a formative assessment, and serves as an indicator of the student’s level of understanding. It is also assessed on the work habit rubric for inclusion in the effort grade.

Homework timetables are available for parents online. Teachers would only assign homework at the end of each class. Long-term assignments and projects that students will be required to undertake will be factored into this timetable in order to have a balance of time and quality.

Homework will be divided into two categories: compulsory (recommend) and optional. While compulsory or recommended homework will carry marks, optional homework submitted will earn students bonus points.

All homework will be marked and assessed by the respective subject teacher.
