“Verily, Allah tests His servant with what He has given him. So whoever is content with whatever he has been assigned, then Allah will bless him in it, and give him more! But whoever is not content (with what he has been given), then he will not be blessed in it."1 |

Over 1400 years Muslims have developed ways to integrate their religious beliefs with the external economic realities of the nations they live in. This has had varying degrees of compatibility with the empires and customs they encountered. Like most things in Islam, commerce adapts to al-urf, "the custom" provided it does not violate the Shari'ah rulings. (e.g. use of Salam, Ijaarah etc. during the Jahaliya period). Read More...

| Competition |
Abu Huraira, r.a., reported that the Prophet (saw) said, "Be careful of suspicion, for it is the most mistaken of all speech. Do not spy on others, compete* among yourselves, envy one another, or despise one another. Rather, be servants of Allah and brothers!"
(*There is nothing wrong with healthy competition, particularly in doing good deeds. This hadith refers to competition that destroys team play and equality, etc.) Bukhari/Muslim and others |
| Envy and Permanent Distress |
Allah controls all affairs according to His own will not in accordance with the envious person’s wishes and Allah never responds to the desires of those unjustifiably bear grudges. So Allah leaves them in their turmoil. Contemplate what one of the wise men said: ‘An envious person carries the sword against his Lord in five ways. Firstly he resents any blessing another person has secondly, he objects to the Lord’s distribution of blessings, thirdly, he does the opposite of what Allah does: Allah gives His blessings to whomsoever He wants while he withholds the blessing. Fourthly, he leaves the servants of the Lord in the lurch, wants to do so or wishes for the blessing to be plucked from them. Fifthly, he supports Allah’s enemy, Iblis (Satan) |

| Mutaffifin |
Those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others) |
Muttaqûn |
Pious and righteous persons who fear Allah swt much (abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which Allah has forbidden) and love Allah much (perform all kinds of good deeds which Allah has ordained). |
Salafi Muslim |
There is no such thing as a "salafi muslim" (muslim of the salaf) in today's time. In order to be a salaf, you had to live during the first 3 generations during and/or after the revelation of the Qur'an. To make a sunnah out of calling yourself a salafi muslim is to state that 1) you are of the first three generations of pious muslims after the revelation of the Qur'an and 2) you have potential for division into a sect. One may use the word "Salafi Muslim" but not make a sunnah/tradition out of it, as though it is a required part of the religion. |
Dayn |
The linguistic meaning of the word dayn (debt) in Arabic has to do with submission and humiliation. The connection between the shar’i meaning and the linguistic meaning is clear. The debtor is a prisoner, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Your companion is being detained by his debt.” Narrated by Abu Dawood, 3341; classed as hasan by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood. Those who adhere to dawat-us-salafiyyah best describe themself as a "Muslim" whose minhaj (methodology/system) is Qur'an and Sunnah and madhdhab (way) is that of the salaf. Read more at article Dawat-us-salafiyyah. |
