Surah Al-Qadar

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

The Surah takes its name after the word al-Qadr in the very first verse and is also referred to as Surah Al Iqra. The subject matter of the Surah is the Quran. The Surah is placed after Surah Al Alaq which further explains the importance of the revelation of the Quran emphasizing its great and magnificent status.

Surat Al-Alaq

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

The Surah takes its name from the second verse, which refers to human creation. The subject matter of the Surah is knowledge.

The first five verses were the first revelation that was sent down to the Prophet (saw) through angel Jibraeel (a.s.) when Prophet (saw) was in the Cave of Hira before his prophethood and was narrated by Aishah as she herself heard it from the Holy Messenger of Allah (saw). Read More... 

The Ummayyad Period

Praise be to Allah swt who sent His Messengers with clear signs and guidance to bring the people out from darkness into light, and to guide them to His path - the Straight Path .

The Ummayyads ruled for around ninety years from 660 – 750CE following the period of Khulafah Rashideen (The four Rightly Guided Caliphs). During the lifetime of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, success and victory were measured in relation to bringing people to Tawheed (affirmation of the Oneness of Allah) and the worship of Allah and the religion of Islam as their way of life.

In spite of their greatness, there are controversies in the style in which they ruled. With the vast expansion of the Islamic state, and the influence of other cultures, religions and believes, the Ummayyads generally followed a secular way of life. When personal rivalries within the Ummayyads increased, greed for wealth, injustice and tyranny were apparent and the Abbasids took advantage of this situation to overthrow the Ummayyad dynasty. Aqeedah

The word Creed is taken from the Latin word ‘credo’, which means ‘to believe’, ‘to bind something’, a brief authoritative formula of religious belief or a set of fundamental beliefs or guiding principle. In the Jewish tradition the Aqeedah, in Hebrew, is the binding of Isaac and Ishmael, and the Christians use the term creed in the same manner.

Aqeedah is the technical form that the Arabs used later. It is linguistically derived from the term aqada, which conveys the meaning of certainty, affirmation, confirmation, etc.Therefore, Al-Aqeedah or Al-Itiqad according to the scholars of Islam is: The firm creed that one's heart is fixed upon without any wavering or doubt.  Read More...
